One to many prunes

Ok, so I swore that I would never be the mom to discuss my childs bowel movements all over the internet..but this one was the poops of all poops! I am guessing that this mama got a little carried away with the prunes..and well, today, of course as I am just getting ready to leave the house I pick the poopy princess up to discover that we have a "up the back" situation going on:) But this isn't just an over the diaper situation, maybe staining the top of her shirt..oh no, this is an all the way up to the neck situation! oh my, it was nasty:) I was going to get my camera, but it just wasn't going to happen:)! So yes, it always works out that its when i am running late, or all by myself;) So I think for a few days, this mama is going to lay off giving her baby the prunes and will trust that her bowels are working just fine;)

Indian Summer Turkey Chili

SO considering it feels like an indian Summer out there right now...ok, well maybe not that warm, but it sure is beautiful I thought I would try this one last night! I guess Tuesday is officialy my recipe adventure night! So here you go..another big hit in our house! I served it over rice, and topped it with sour cream and cheese. I probably will add more hot sauce and chilli next time cause we like heat, and it is a sweeter chilli with the bbq sauce and such..but the great part about it is you can adjust the heat as you like! enjoy...we sure did!!!!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
1 1/4 ground turkey breast
3 tbsp of dark chilli powder
1 tbs of Grill season(we use McCormicks Montreal steak)
1 tbsp of ground cumin
2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp of hot sauce
1 large yellow onion
2 bell peppers(I used one red one orange)
3/4 cup of beer..oh and a little swig for you while you cook:)*grin*
1 28 once can of tomato sauce or tomato puree
1/2 cup smokey barbeque sauce
1 cup of frozen corn kernels

Directions

Heat a pot over medium hight heat. Add the EVOO and the ground turkey. Season the meat with the chili poswer, grill seasoning, cumin, worcestershire, and hot sauce. Break up the meat with the back of a wodden spoon into small crumbles.

Chop the onion, reserving one quarter of it for topping the chili.(chop the reserve onion extra fine). Brown the meat for 5 minutes, than add the onion and bell peppers and cook 10 more minutes. Add the beer and deglaze the pan, scraping up the drippings and cooking off the alcohol. Add the tomato sauce or puree, bbq sauce, and corn and bring the chili to a bubble. Let the chili simmer for 10 minutes. Adjust the sasonings and heat level to your taste. Remove from heat and serve with your choice of toppers.

Korean BBQ Flank Steak and sour slaw salad

Here is fantastic dish I made last night from my new cookbook:)! I try to make it my plan to try one new recipe a week..so this was this weeks! Its got some heat, so if you like hot and spicy foods this one is for you! Delish!!!

Ingredients

1 tbsp of McCormicks Meontreal steak seasoning
1/4 tamari(Dark aged soy sauce)
2. tbsp of honey
2 tsp of red pepper flakes
4 large garlic cloves
2 tsp of seasame oil
Vegetable oil for drizzling(I use Extra virgin olive oil)
2 pound flank steaks(I used striplion)
Cabbage(I used the coleslaw mix)
1/2 red pepper
salt

Directions

In a shallow dish, combine the grill seasoning, tamari, 1 tbsp of the honey, 1 tsp of the red pepper flakes, half the chopped garlic, the sesame oil, and a drizzle of oil. Couat the steaks and let stand for 10 minutes.

Preheat an indoor grill, a stovetop grill pan, or an outdoor grill to medium heat. When the grill pan or grill is screaming hot add the meat and cook for 5 min on each side for medium rare or 7 to 8 minute on each side for medium well.

Heat a large skillet over high heat. Add 2 tbsp of the oil, the coleslaw mix, and the pepper. Season with salt and stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Add a drizzle of the honey, the remaining red pepper flakes, and the remaining garlic and toss to combine with the cabbage.

To serve, let the meat rest for 5 minutes for juices to redistribute. thinly slice the meat on the heavy angle against the grain, pile of the slaw, top with the sliced korean steak and serve.

I also made risotto to go with it because i love my carbs..its was delish, oh, and a fantastic glass of red wine isn't to shabby either t0 add on the side;)

Post three of the day!

Ok, so apparently I have lots to share:) Scroll down for two other post that I posted today..just some fun ones! This post is to warm a mama's heart. If you need encouragment today, if you feel like your job is worthless, or you feel worthless, please read the lyrics to this Steven Curtis Chapman song..and be blessed!

You’re up all night with a screaming baby You run all day at the speed of life
And every day you feel a little bit less like the beautiful woman you are
So you fall into bed when you run out of hours and you wonder if anything worth doing got done Well maybe you just don’t know or maybe you’ve forgotten
That you, you are changing the worldone little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it now but I believe that time will tell
how you, you are changing the worldone little heartbeat at a time
With every, “I know you can do it”and every tear that you kiss away
So many little things that seem to go unnoticed
they’re just like the drops of rainover time, they become a river
And you, you are changing the worldone little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smil
eOh you, you may not see it nowbut I believe that time will tell
how you, you are changing the worldone little heartbeat at a time
You’re beautiful, so beautifulhow you’re changing the world,
yeah you’re changing the worldYou,
you are changing the worldone little heartbeat at a time
Making history with every touch and every smile
Oh you, you may not see it nowbut I believe that time will tell how
you, you are changing the worldI believe that you, you are changing the world
one little heartbeat at a time

How could I resist!

Movie Review

So last night some girly friend and I headed out to cheapy popcorn and pop and movie night:)! its such a great Tuesday night treat once and awhile, and saves having to drag the man to something he is going to dread! Anyways, last nights choice was this little lucky charm. Leap Year. To be honest, I didn't know much about this movie going in, and wasn't even over ally excited to see it. But it always seems to work out in life right now, expect too much get disappointed, expect, just a good time..life exceeds my expectations, and this was one of them!
Such a cute flick, Filled with witty humor, tons of sarcasm, endearing mockery of the woman you love..and beautiful scenery, what can I say, these are all things that go on in our household, and well beautiful scenery...who doesn't love that!!! Anyways on a chick flick scale of 1 to 5 lipsticks..well I give this one a four:)!

Addyson 7 months!

Our peanut is 7 months! oh my! What fun we are having with this little fairy:) She is SUCH a joy..its not all sunshine and flowers and there are definate days I want to pull out my hair or hide in a cave and sleep for a week.....but....mostly, its just joy!! And the joy blinds the tough days:)
I would describe this stage not as my favorite, as i don't hav a favorite, but I would describe it as so much FUN! She makes us laugh so much as she is such a character:) Full of giggles, and screams(happy ones of course), babbles, funny faces, and so much more, she lights up our days and is such a breathe of fresh air to our family:)!
It seems like she has changed so much these last couple of months and has evolved from a new born baby to becoming a little girl. A part of me loves it and another part of me finds it so scarry how fast time is going! I guess what makes it easier is knowing she is my first not my last, so we do get to do this again Lord willing one day.
She sits up by herself for quite long period of time now. She loves her exersaucer and is quite busy in that! she loves to go swimming, and we love watching her in the water its so much fun! She eats lots of different foods now, chicken, beef, peas, beans, carrots, sweet potatos and this week bananas:) She gobblesl it all up! Oh little miss, you warm your daddy's and mine hearts so much..We love you to peices and can't wait to see what this month brings!

While baby sleeps...

So while baby sleeps I have been working on a few projects around here. One of them being learning my new digital scrapbooking program which I have been having lots of fun with! I am doing my cuba album as I haven't scrapbooked that yet! I am doing Addyson's first year book by hand and will continue to do so, but after that, on to digital I think! I still like doing the old fashioned way so I think i will still do some small books, and cards, but for the majority of it, this is the way I am going to go!
I have also been having fun learning my camera and playing with my FIL's SLR..old film style;) I still would love to take a basic course one day, just for myself as i want to be able to take lots of good shots of my family through the years! I was quite proud of myself last week as I learned how to do a blurry background with my little point and shoot! check it out..again, quite proud:)*grin*

The other big thing I have been working on around here is for my granny. Cleaning out her house after my grandfather died last spring was quite the ordeal! over sixty years of memories all over the place. She now lives in my aunts basement suite, its quant but small. So what do you do with all that stuff?? Well, most of its gone, but all those pictures, I couldn't let her let them go. So I have taken on the task of organizing them all, pulling them all out of the old albums, organizing them, and than I am going to put some in albums and the rest in photo boxes. Its turned out to be quite the project as you can see from my dining room table!

So those are just of the few side things that I have been up to this rainy January:)
One of the things that I found while going through all this stuff was the newspaper clipping of my grandparents wedding announcement! So crazy, with details such as what her dress was made out of, her flowers, and a list of many of the guests!! Can you tell they were from a small town way back in the day????:) Looking at all these pictures, seeing my relatives so young..so full of life makes me wish I could jump into that picture and see what they were like back than. To watch my grandparents and parents date, grow up, be kids..wouldn't that be interesting??

till they are two...they weren't kidding!

Well, I was quite looking forward to 2010. My Dream, my goal, my prayer was to have a peaceful year...well, we aren't off to a good start. But on the positive side, there are still like 351 days left for it to get better, so I am focusing on the positive..really i am! So why is it a big sucky start???? Well, it started ok, with Dave and I having some time off together before he headed back to school to finish his last level of his apprenticeship. I can't wait till he is done, and he is almost there..ok that was a side note. So yes, back to what i was saying, we were having some time off, and it was great. Than I was all motivated to get busy and keep focused on projects while Dave studies away. So this a great plan, but this plan has to take into consideration a little princess..and well a sometimes cranky and clingy one at that. Well, I guess there is no such thing as a non high maintanence princess:)*grin* Ok, truth be told, she isn't. When all is well in her little world, she is fantastic..such an easy baby, full of chatter, and laughs, and screeches, and self entertains, and smiles...fantastic, i can't get enough of her. But than there is this ugly cloud that rolls over our heads..the teething cloud. It comes in and out and rains on us as much as Vancouver gets dumped on! So really, when they said till two, did they have to mean every day??? On boxing day I had a ray of hope, at least teeth! two in fact, well now, the cranky month, all makes sense...I knew they were coming! So things should go back to peace and normal right??, umm nope..apperantly there are more to come..so I wait..and wait and wait, and I am still waiting:) so what comes along with teething, well restless nights, which equals sleep deprived mama, which equals low immune system, which equals nasty cold. Oh joy:) So we are off to an interesting start to this year, but we will make it through and enjoy the sunshine when its head pops through!

Today was good though, as I got a much needed break, a shopping break actually! and it was great! To metrotown my mommy and me friends went..all sans babies, and what a joyous time we had! we shopped, drank coffee, ate, and chatted..perfect day really:) and the best part...coming home to that sweet little face, with those chubby cheeks that are waiting to be kissed. I battled it at first, felt like a horrible mom actually when I was relieved to get a break, but than I realized, i am being a good mom by doing so..because we all need a break to regroup once and awhile:) And I feel so much better, and know that I will be a better mom tomorrow for doing so! Ready to face the rest of this journey of teething..h-e-deouble hockey stick, and enjoying the happy, smiley, full of fun moments in between! Because they are there, a lot of them actually...just not at 2am:)*grin*

So lord, as I close this entry, help my baby girl have a good sleep, with lots of rest, and for her mama too..we could use it:) thank you...and goodnight.

Lots of walking and cute hats;)

I borrowed my dads old SLR film camera, thats right film:) I wanted to play with it to see the quality of photos it could take, as yes, one day, like everyone else I would love one! it was so wierd to use a film camera, I had forgot what it was like. Why, because you can't see the pictures? but that was kind of fun too; the pictures being a suprise! here are some of the shots I got!

Hello ducky! I had to tell these ducky's to go
Away as they were quite fasinated with addy!

Heres what I have been up to this week:)

No, I haven't been to a tropical Island...I wish! But i have been playing around with my christmas present..a digital scrapbooking program. So I thought i would make some pages from our trip to cuba since I haven't scrapbooked that yet! I already started my baby girls first year album the old fashion way..but going forward, I think this will be the way to go! I love the old fashioned way, but it takes up a lot of room, which we don't have right now! so this is a great alternative!

2010 looking forward, 2009 Reflecting Back:)

Ok, baby is sleeping so I have a few moments to do this! I wanted to do a quick recap of the year for myself to look back and remember. I also have loved the trend I have seen on other blogger friends pages where they choose a word for 2010..so here is both. First I saw this lovely recap questionare on a few blogger friends pages, so I thought I would copy and follow suit..so here we go! Following I will tell my word for 2010!

9. What was your biggest failure?

-Failure is a word a battle a lot. I feel like I fail all the time. The biggest thing I battled, and felt LIke I had failed at was giving birth. Any post partum that i had after having Addyson was in relation to having a c section. For the longest time I felt like i had failed. This is something I still battle, and may always have it hanging over my, but I working through it..and I no longer attach the failure word to it!

14. Where did most of your money go?

-Where do I begin! Well, baby, government, down the toilet:)

-Giving birth to my baby girl, and meeting her for the first time, as well as all of my other little people that came into my life this year...i have been so blessed:)!

16. What song reminds you of 2009?

-Well there are two! Chris Browns Forever, and I got a feeling from the black eye peas! they keep me going, and dancing!

-A beautiful healthy baby girl:)

26. What did you want and not get?

-To move into a bigger place.

27. What was your favorite film of the year?

-I actually thought this was a crappy year for movies. But, I would have to say, The ugly truth, the proposal, the blind side, and love happens..yup, chick flicks!! I am sure I am missing some:)

28. What did you do on your birthday and how old are you?

-I turned 27 and we went to seattle for the weekend with my brother and SIL.

29. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

-Taking a tropical vacation and moving into a bigger place..see the theme:)

30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?

-umm, well it started with whatever fits:)..I was pregnant for half the year. And now its, whatever fits and I can afford. Buying a whole new wardrobe on a very tight budget is tricky, but my success happens at superstore and Forever 21! I just want clothes to be fun!!

31. What Kept you sane?

-My hubby and my family:)

32. What celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

-umm, not sure..

-ok, well this is kind of crazy for me, but really, no one! I seem to always be meeting new people and changing place, but not this year...and i kind of like it:)!

35. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009

-I could write a book on this one. But the biggest thing I learned in 2009 was I learned how to be content. And it is the best feeling in the world. So many things fall into place, and I have gained a whole new persepective on life by getting this concept!

OK, now for my word for 2010.....its CREATE. I have always been a pretty creative artsy person. Grew up around music, arts, loved to color, design, paint, scrapbook..ect. but over the past decade those things kind of got put on the shelf as pursued other things. But I really feel that I have been building my role as a for now, stay at home mom, these things are starting to blossom again, and I am excited! I have lots of neat projects I am working on right now, and a few fun classes I am going to be taking over the next couple of months that i am really excited about! So as i walk this journey, I will try and post things as I learn and grow! But being creative isn't just in the tangible sense. I also want to create, a better home, filled with more love, security, joy, ect..for my hubby and my girl...I am so excited for this year and things to come. We have some big hurdles ahead that I am terrified of on some level, but I am trusting my KING as I know he will provide...and I will just pursue what he has called me to!
